The Qemists

Need some good drum’n'bass (mixed with rock and others) to get you started? Look no further, The Qemists have the tunes. The UK based band started of in 2005 with their debut album, a remix of Coldcut’s “Everything Is Under Control”. Since then they released a couple of singles, many remixes and delivered some solid performances. One of my favorites is “Let There Be Light” (also because it’s features sound clips from Animatrix - Second Renaissance part 1, perfectly blended into the song). As a proof their skills their tracks made it into the Radio 1 Essential mixes of Pendulum and Coldcut. Their former gigs as a rock band is most certain a influence on their current work, a very positive one. So get their singles as soon as you can and listen to them with maxed out volume. Also check out their webpage at http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artist.php?id=129.

Need For Speed: Undercover OST

Need for Speed: Undercover was released a couple of days ago for the XBox360, and will be available for PC on the 21st, and with all the promising trailers around I just had to check it out. The game is not as good as you might expect, it’s… average, although the graphics, cars & the city look amazing, and you will find youself neglecting the race because you just gaze at the scenery. But that’s not the thing that struck me the most. The real gem which I discovered was the soundtrack, and it rules. I didn’t like music of the previous games, except for NFS: Underground (the original, not 2) where the aggressive music really amplified the sensation of driving out of control through the streets. In this installment, the sountrack shifts towards Drum’n'Bass and one of great quality. There’s almost no rock & hip-hop tunes. There are 3 Pendulum tracks, a Qemists Spor remix, Ladytron, an awsome Mindless Self Indulgence remix, Prodigy, even Amon Tobin and they all fit perfectly. Maybe you’re not a big fan of games or car sims but the OST is a must.

Pixar Short: Burn-E

Released on the Wall-E DVD, “Burn-E” is the lastest Pixer short movie. In only 8 minutes, the movie tells the story of Burn-E, a whelding robot trying to repair a broken signal pole on the Axiom. Staying true to the Wall-E movies, this one is more “cute” then funny, but it’s a great piece of storytelling. In case you haven’t seen it already on the Wall-E DVD here’s the online version: http://videolog.uol.com.br/video.php?id=384866.

Burn After Reading

Saw “Burn After Reading” last night and it was quite good and most certain the Coens’ funniest film since “The Big Lebowski”. The performance of the actors is solid and there are a bunch of great quotes that will stick with you. John Malkovich plays a retired CIA agent who starts to write a book about his former job. The documents land in the hands of two Gym trainers who plan to “receive a reward” for their find. From there on the events gradually spiral out of control, turing into an “clusterfuck”.  There are many memorable scenes thoughout the movie, although the final one might just be the  funnniest. Rent it or go see it, it’s definitely worth it.

Hoophy

Shin Tanaka is without doubt one of the best paper toy makers out there. His toys are impress with their modern design and detailed models. The newest of his creation is Hoophy and he is free for download. A blank template will also be soon available. I hope that this will follow the trend of Spiky Baby, where periodical series by different designer were released for free and some of them were excellent. Head over to Shin Tanaka page and get your own hoophy.

Wrath of the Lich King

The new World of Warcraft expansion in now in stores, and at 27h after it’s launch a french player already hit the new level cap: 80. The character who earned this achievement is Nymh from France. It must have been quite a race, considering only a couple of hours after the release there were several characters with level 74. The new expansion is returning to the dark & medieval style of the base game, leaving behind the more SF trend of the first expansion. The graphics and environment are amazing: the Aurora Borealis in Northrend looks great, the cities & buildings are much more detailed and you feel cold only by looking at the landscape. Overall, a great expansion, in my opinion a better one then Burning Crusade, that brings new life to an already impressive world.

Nanami Cowdroy Art

Although I knew about Nanami’s works for about a year, but I just revisited her website and I’m equaly impressed as I was when I first saw her gallery. I really like her style. Her take on japanese themes and iconic images is quite unique. Most of the art is a intricate, inky representation of objects and some also are related to how the individual is connected to his environment. Her art is also available as laptop & mp3 player sleeves at Gela Skins. I higly recommend to visit her site and enjoy her art gallery: www.nthread.net. Also, there’s an interesting interview with Nanami at Watim.
