TV & Movie

Burn After Reading

Saw “Burn After Reading” last night and it was quite good and most certain the Coens’ funniest film since “The Big Lebowski”. The performance of the actors is solid and there are a bunch of great quotes that will stick with you. John Malkovich plays a retired CIA agent who starts to write a book about his former job. The documents land in the hands of two Gym trainers who plan to “receive a reward” for their find. From there on the events gradually spiral out of control, turing into an “clusterfuck”.  There are many memorable scenes thoughout the movie, although the final one might just be the  funnniest. Rent it or go see it, it’s definitely worth it.

The Wire

Whatever TV series you are watching or thing is great, you can drop them and start watching “The Wire”. This is one of the best shows TV has ever offered. With a 9.7 IMDB rating, this has to be the best made so far. The Wire is not your average TV Show, story arcs span over entire seasons and there’s an overall story that runs thoughout the series. But the real keyword is realism! The level of realism reached by this show is incredible and make all show calling themselves “Reality TV” looking like staged cartoons. The social critique and highly accurate picture of the modern American society might be hard to swallow for some, but it’s all real. There is no good and bad, just different shades of grey. Although this might seem like a cops & robbers story, it’s not. It’s more of a X-Ray of the “decline of the American Empire” as said by series creator David Simon.
